for Wednesday March 9th......... Ash Wednesday

Mercy's freight area. Spy camera is in the white circle. This camera can see the smokers, the illegally parked trucks and busses, into our driveway, and probably our backyard. It can ss I am sure illegally loading on city property and sidewalk area.

Why can't the eye see the buses idling along side our property line. However sometime the busses move ahead to the front door where they can legally be stopped. See above. Why can't the busses do this most all the time.

for Tuesday March 8th

Last Thursday I went to Kaiser Hospital on Cottage Way to see what they are doing about trucks and smoking.
.......................

Smoking? One hospital employee told me everyone goes out behind some containers to smoke. On hospital property. There was no body there smoking when I checked. A security person said "No Smoking". We don't even want you smoking on the city sidewalks. We send a walking security around and a driving security around often. All we have to do is to politely ask and almost everyone puts their buts out and/or moves across the street. There are no residential homes adjacent to the campus.

Trucks: I didn't go below, but Kaiser had no trucks on the ground level. There are two underground tunnel entrances like this for freight handling. I saw no unloading/freight handling on public streets.

for Monday March 7th

Last Wednesday this fire truck and crew were checking out access to Mercy's loading dock area.

They wouldn't take their truck in after they walked in and checked it out. As reported before I asked the how they would fight a fire there. The answer: "Strategic placement of equipment". See the blue squares on the plan for service vehicle access.

for Friday March 4th

The dashed blue squares show the service vehicle plan for the EIR report. There is no increase in existing freight facilities despite a huge increase in hospital square footage. This was a big oversight, or else the plan was to unload freight on J St. and in the neighborhood.
................
For Monday I will talk to fire department people again. They can not make the tight turns and dead end alley with a large fire truck. I asked a fireman yesterday how they would fight a fire in this core area? He gave me a text book, some what glib reply, "With strategic placement of equipment."

for Thursday March 3rd

Someone asked me to post a map of Mercy. This is their approved EIR plan. Oct 2007. Click to enlarge.

for Wednesday March 2nd

Today, Wednesday, I made a trip to Methodist in the south area to see what they are doing about smoking and truck deliveries. One knowledgable person told me to stay 30 feet from the front door.

Another knowledgeable person directed to this smoking area.

These people take the prize for the best no smoking signs I have seen. Lastly I talked to hospital security. No Smoking anywhere on campus. They have walk-around and have drive-around security. They are on the camcorder video also. Anyone seen smoking is asked to retire to the public. sidewalks. There are no private homes near the campus.
..........................

These two pictures show the freight area.

Trucking seems well handled and efficient. It is tucked quietly around the back

for Monday February 28th

Today I visited Shriners Hospital on Stockton Blvd. I was surprised to see a delivery truck at their front door. I was told no heavy delivery trucks, as they may break up the tile in the parking lot. Only small trucks are allowed are ones delivering a high priority item like blood, etc.
...............
This is the Shriners truck unloading area. It is a row of reserved parking spaces for vendors and oversized vehicles. Mercy could do the same thing. Mercy has moved the noisy shredder trucks to an on-campus side street off H St. Thank you.

On the Shriners there is no smoking on the campus. There are no private homes adjacent to their property. It is suggested smokers cross the street to the small commerical area.
